Biodiesel is a clean-burning alternative to petroleum-based diesel. It is a fuel that can be burned in almost any diesel engine–including cars, trucks, heavy equipment, and diesel generators. At SouthernEco, we produce biodiesel from waste vegetable oil that we collect from local restaurants. After production, we then distribute the fuel to local construction companies who are looking for a cleaner burning and cost–effective alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuel. Some benefits of biodiesel are:
Clean Burning: Biodiesel has 75% fewer emissions compared to petroleum based diesel or gasoline. Using 6,000 gallons of biodiesel will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 78,000 pounds of CO2. This contributes to cleaner air, less smog, and less pollution that ends up in the Alabama River.
Domestically Produced: Biodiesel contributes to Alabama’s energy security because it is produced locally, instead of the Middle East.
Renewable: Biodiesel is made from plant oils and even waste vegetable oil. As long as people grow plants and fry food, we can make biodiesel. Using SouthernEco equipment, biodiesel can be made for approximately $0.90/gallon compared with the average cost of diesel at $2.97/gallon.
Safe: Biodiesel is less toxic than table salt. Biodiesel is better for the life of your engine. It has a higher lubricity rate than diesel, therefore creating less wear on your engine and more performance of your vehicle.
